According to WHO data, every 24 seconds someone loses their life in a road crash, and more than 1.2 million people die on the world’s roads every year. Children and youth aged 5 to 29 are the most vulnerable group, with road crashes being the leading cause of death in this age category globally.
As part of its prevention efforts, the Automobile Club of Moldova has developed an informational road safety module to help young people better understand traffic risks and adopt safe, responsible habits, becoming role models for their peers and communities.
With the support of the Ministry of Education and Research, this module will be distributed in all schools and youth centers across the country to educate and promote safe behavior among road users - especially pedestrians, passengers, and cyclists.
The road safety module for youth – “Be Aware! Be Safe!” – was launched in September 2025 and will be presented through a series of educational workshops for young people aged 14 to 35 nationwide, in youth centers. The first session was held at the Chișinău Municipal Youth Center, with others planned in the coming weeks.
The module includes an animated video, a PowerPoint presentation, and a leaflet with main messages. These materials are structured around four key categories of road users: pedestrians, passengers, cyclists and scooter riders, and drivers. Together, they provide a basic informational resource for potential trainers (teachers, youth, etc.) and remain in institutions for ongoing use, distribution, and promotion.
In addition to interactive activities and the knowledge gained, participating youth also receive reflective items to help keep them safe in low-visibility conditions.
The sessions encourage active involvement, giving participants the chance to engage in discussions, ask questions, share and receive answers, and explore solutions. Young people become more aware of their role as road users and of the influence they can have on those around them.
These prevention activities are part of the project “Safe Generation – Education and Action for Safer Roads”, implemented by the Automobile Club of Moldova with the support of the National Youth Agency, and the project “Promoting 30 km/h School Zones in Moldova”, supported by EASST and the FIA Foundation.
